FiiO X3 (2nd Generation) High Resolution Music Player

FiiO X3 (2nd Generation) High Resolution Music Player

The new, second generation FiiO X3 ($199) is solid portable music player that offers a ton of versatility without breaking the bank. Small but powerful, the internal amp is capable of driving headphones up to 300 ohms. The second gen X3 comes equipped with an upgraded Cirrus Logic CS4398 DAC chip capable of handling just about any type of audio file you can throw at it, including 24-bit/192kHz Hi-Res Audio files, and it even offers native DSD decoding.

Special tantalum capacitors within the analog circuit provide minimal internal resistance for the best sound quality from a unit at this price. Dual crystal oscillators ensure the lowest jitter and high precision playback t o virtually eliminating conversion artifacts. The player offers a standard 1/8" (3.5mm) headphone output and a separate line out/digital (coaxial) output via 1/8" jack. The X3II has no on-board memory, and thus you can easily use a microSD card. The 2600 mAh Li-polymer battery provides up to 11 hours of playback under normal conditions. The user interface (UI) offers six unique themes, while the classic scroll wheel and 2.0" TFT display provides navigation, which supports browsing and playback via folders, songs, albums, artists, genres, favorites, and playlists. A generous 10-band graphic EQ and the 120-step digital volume control give you that tailored sound and volume levels. The chassis is made of aluminum alloy and features a high reflectance fine-grain faceplate.

Bypassing the converter entirely and running coax out to a DAC of your choice is a handy tool for making your digital collection accessible on any system. The X3-II ships with a 1 meter high-current micro USB data/charging cable, coaxial S/PDIF adapter, black silicone case, two screen protectors (one applied in-factory), and a set of three Bodywork stickers (USA flag, wood grain, and carbon fiber). With 11 hours of battery life and a microSD slot supporting cards up to 128GB, you're in for hours of sweet tunes on the go with the X3. – Dave Hanson
