Exclusive: Inside Vienna High-End 2026 — The Pinnacle Of Luxury Sound Unveiled
A new city and a new venue meant a challenging two days of orientation for show reporters, but with a lot of schlepping, I found my way around the vast Austria Centre and a couple of satellite events and heard some often expensive, sometimes truly great sounds at this year's HIGH END. Here are the highlights. "Vienna brought a different energy to the show — a blend of imperial elegance and modern precision that set the tone for the systems on display," says Creative Director Steve R. Rochlin. "Exhibitors seemed determined to make a statement, filling their rooms with bold flagship debuts, lavish materials, and engineering that bordered on the obsessive. Crowds were strong from the moment the doors opened, with long lines forming outside the most talked-about rooms as word spread of breakthrough designs and six-figure sonic spectacles. The new venue's sprawling layout encouraged deeper exploration, revealing hidden gems tucked between the major halls and boutique makers showing off handcrafted artistry. Even seasoned showgoers, including seasoned journalists, felt a jolt of excitement as brands used Vienna's debut year to push boundaries, elevate expectations, and redefine what luxury high-end audio can mean. It is clear that HIGH END 2026 in Vienna wasn't just a relocation — it was a reinvention!"
Avantgarde Acoustic
This bandwidth is achieved with the aid of DSP and a 10 Watt Class A/B amplifier, where the first and busiest Watt is Class A. Bass is provided by a 10" paper cone driven by a 400 Watt Class D amplifier. The Opus 1 has seven presets for equalization, and the antenna on the back is for OTA updates, not Bluetooth!
Gryphon Audio
The piece of piano music being played on the Apollo turntable has a very solid attack and decay, replicating the power and hardwood character of the live instrument with considerable authority and upending the notion that Class A sounds soft. The system also included the new Helios preamplifier with PS3 phono and DAC modules developed for Gryphon's Diablo 333 integrated.
Sphinx
The sound was impressively extended for the size of the cabinet, playing a typically audiophile version of Sound of Silence, there was plenty of clean power on tap, which are a result that was partly attributable to the Siltech and Soulution electronics and Crystal cabling. The Element 5 costs €80,000, the three-way Element 3 €45,000.
Constellation
Despite its size, the Statement has a switched mode power supply, and given the quality of power, finesse, detail, and sonic holography presented, I am inclined to think that linear power supplies will be a thing of the past sooner than expected. These powerful 1,700W Class A/B amps retail for $189,000 each and they look great in the metal.
