The Home Entertainment Show 2005
THE Show -- The Home Entertainment Show
Saturday

Yes siree Bob it is Windows On Wheels with them naturally touting the XP Media Center. XBox, home networking, all wireless... your music where you want it when you want it. Home integration folks.

Swingin' to the music is the new Ars Aures Midi Senorial two-way three drive D'Appolito loudspeaker ($9,400) sounded very effortless and smooth being driven by the Art Audio Quartet monoblock tubed amplifiers.

Getting my vote for the coolest lookin' CD player is the Consonance CDP-5.0 ($3,000). This unit includes both XLR and RCA analog outputs plus a digital S/PDIF output. The amplification is tubed with the Russian 6H30. Ooh la la with those stunning sleek lines, gorgeous curves... very sensual. Hmmm, perhaps i need to get out more (like Ian with the Cain & Cain).

Maybe it is my relaxed, loving mood as the Jolida Music Envoys 200-watt monoblock amplifier ($9,500) employ the 211 output tube in 'Class AB' push pull. The warm glow of the tubes, the blue glow of the faceplate, the...

Sure there is boatloads of new gear at THE Show, yet hearing music on the Ampex 351-2 was a joy. Guess it proves that newer technology is not always better.

Yes indeed this is a special Heil tweeter. Not your usual offering and our reviewer Wayne Donnelly apparently enjoyed them in his review (as seen here).

Communiqué's handmade MC phono preamplifier ($7,000) keeps the power noise away via an outboard power supply. An EF86 is triode connected to ECC99 for shunt regulation and output driver. The input is bipolar, like some people i know ;)

Episode Audio's new Episode 1 is a four driver, three-way design with a twist; or should i say with an interesting top n' bottom. The top firing midwoofer fills in the lower frequencies, though what is interesting is the upward- and lower-firing 2-inch titanium cone midrange units. They face each other slightly angled while the front-firing center tweeter is for the upper registers. A very unique design indeed!

MoFi is kickin' it sweet by offering Patricia Barber's Cafe' Blue on 45rpm three disc album. In fact all her albums will be released on 45rpm! Music rules!
