Toronto Audiofest 2026 Show Report Part 2: Hi-Fi Highlights, Great New Gear, And Must-Hear High-End Audio Systems
Georgian Bay Kevro International And Michi By Rotel
They featured the new 8th generation of the Silver Series model 500 speaker ($5k) driven by a Michi Prestige X430 integrated amp ($6,500) and Michi Prestige Q430 CD Player ($5,500) that was making very nice music for $17,000 plus cables and rack. The speakers, designed in England and manufactured in China, have represented excellent value. The new Silver Series is also available in white and walnut finishes, and includes a complement of home theater speakers.
The flagship Platinum series is an outstanding speaker when driven by top-shelf components, but Kevro is to be applauded here for presenting a fine real-world system in this time of uncertainty.
K1 Audio Sensibility
Steven was proud to show me the new Signature SE Silver USB Cable (Type A-B) that uses OCC silver rectangular ribbon conductors in a tube, resulting in an air dielectric. Separate cables, one for power and one for signal, are used to reduce noise, and the two are then twisted together.
As we've done over the years, Steven and I got together for a photo, along with Tony Tino of Audio Sensibility on the left, and Simon Au of Audiyo, the Furutech and Mundorf distributor. When Simon was first getting started, many years ago, he gave me some 18 Ga. pure silver wire, which I boondoggled into interconnects with silver solder and locking RCAs. All these years later, those interconnects serve in the rig of my son-in-law, who has one daughter still in college before he joins the ranks of serious audiophiles. As for Furutech, their flagship duplex outlet, carbon fiber cover, and wall-mount bracket are at the termination of my Audience Hidden Treasure In-Wall 30A dedicated line. The Devil is in the details.
