Lone Star Audio Fest 2025: The Pulse Of High-Fidelity
Mike Lundy came down from Oklahoma to display his beautiful woodworking creations. Uilleam Audio does not design speakers. They build cabinets and crossover networks to the designer's specifications and the client's desired finishing choices, install the crossover networks and drivers, and burn the speakers in.
Mike's room was filled with music by a pair of NX-Studio loudspeakers, which are a GR Research design. The ones pictured had a combination of black paint, oak burl, raw wood veneer, solid purpleheart border inlay with a satin sheen, and crossover parts consisting of Sonicaps all bypassed with Miflex copper foil capacitors, copper foil air core inductors, and Path Audio resistors, and cost $4,700. These speakers were beautiful and sounded very smooth.
Mike also makes turntable plinths. I was smitten with his Rek-o-Kut mounted with a Micro Seki tonearm. The plinth shown goes for $6,500. One of the items that might sneak its way onto my Christmas list is one of the beautiful custom-made record cabinets. One option is the pull-out drawers, so you can easily find the record you're looking for. His cabinets start at $1,950.
Pi Speakers was demonstrating their three ? loudspeakers (Starting at $1,200). These were beautiful two-way high-efficiency speakers. What I heard sounded clear and dynamic, but they could have used more room to breathe.
JWM Acoustics is a well-regarded speaker maker located in the Austin area. They had on display two different pairs of their studio monitors: the Alyson PRO Edition and Alyson AML II. These are custom-made speakers, but they start at $18,500. Electronics employed were the AbsolareAltius Preamplifier ($60,000) and Signature Stereo Power Amplifier ($52,000). Cabling was by Echole and the system I listened to was detailed and smooth. The amount of bass produced by the JWM Alison AML IIs was very impressive!
