Imagine a room perfectly designed for the very best listening experience mated to equally impressive visual styling. So if you had a room that seeks to achieve both visual and audible utopia what loudspeaker would you use? Thus the JM Lab Grand Utopia fits the bill quite nicely! Add in a pair of Goldmund monoblocks, Clearaudio turntable with Statement cartridge... As you can see within the photos, Mr. C.C. Ngoo, who is an engineer, invested quite a bit of resources ensuring the room was thoroughly sorted to achieve the very best in every sense. In fact the room smelled good too! Sight, sound, scent.... bravo! Sidewall first reflection points, ceiling and rear wall were specially configured to diffuse /absorb reflections. Beautiful Brazilian Rosenut wood was specially imported for the flooring. My wife Heather loved this room, and must say I was mighty impressed too! So we said to the owner we're kicking him out of his home. He can leave the stereo and special limited edition Ford Ranger truck in my fave orange color too. Oh yes, he is an automobile guy. Jackpot! With vinyl spinning the sound was smooth and flowed effortlessly. No 'beat frequency' as I call it, which is when you can sense a timing-clock for which the music, no matter its inherent rhythm, can not escape from. This is, I feel, where even basic DSD and, to a greater extent, vinyl and 24-bit/96kHz and above reach 'escape' velocity. Heather said to me she never heard vinyl sound so good, and yes in some ways I miss spinning vinyl yet have given it to the digital world. Each note was clear and distinct with that glorious vinyl sound so many music lovers have grown to love.
