CanJam Singapore 2019 Show Report By Kok Chieat Wong

CanJam Singapore 2019 Show Report
A great show from Head-Fi and global exhibitors from around the world!
CanJam Singapore 2019 Show Report By Kok Chieat Wong

Welcome to Singapore's 2019 installment of CanJam. The crowd was huge and there was already a long queue at the ticketing booth early on before the exhibition started. Speaking to the crowds, there were people coming from Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Taiwan, the States and mostly, from Singapore. This year marked the fourth year for CanJam in Singapore and have personally visited three of them, starting from the second year onward.

The exhibition was held in two separate floors, first floor was the main Pacific Ballroom hosting most of the exhibitors in their booths. The second floor were the Ocean Rooms for exhibitors who wished to have larger booths for listening purposes. There were also seminars given by the prominent names in the head-fi industry like Rob Watts of Chord, Megane Montabonel of Focal, Andy Regan of MrSpeakers, Raveen Bawa of dCS and Jude Mansilla of Head-Fi. Alas, I was not able to attend any of them due to my schedule of tasks at hand of reporting on as many booth as possible given the significant size of CanJam Singapore, plus my limited time.

After attending audio exhibitions for so many years in different parts of the world, I still find the world of head-fi overwhelming. The number of brands and products exhibiting were just huge. This year, it became more challenging with new brands joining the industry from mainland China, Hong Kong, Singapore and the rest of the world. Everyone was trying to have a slice of the attention from the crowds. Looking at the relatively smaller sized products, the competition was fierce and no less than that from the stereo side of audio industry.

I will try my best to cover as many products as possible and put on commentaries on products that piqued my interest. I apologize if I have missed any of the products out there.

Jomo Audio
First up, Jomo Audio, a Singapore company founded by a broadcast engineer in 2015. This relatively new company showcased their latest flagship product, the Trinity Universal IEMs. Hailed as the world first three-way hybrid in-ear monitors sporting electrostatic, balanced armature and dynamic drivers, I have not seen such elaborate combination out there, yet. They are now open for pre-order in different delivery batches and finishing.

EMPIRE
Having the honor to meet up with Dean Vang, the co-founder of EMPIRE, I found out that EMPIRE is a family owned company that is passionate in always finding ways to improve their offerings to the customers. When I met Dean, he was actually trying out new cables with their IEMs. Here, they showcased their three drivers ESR IEMs with proprietary balanced armature drivers and synX Crossover technologies. Their products are all handcrafted in the United States.

InEar
Met Andreas, the CEO of InEar, together with the lovely wife. Andreas was kind enough to explain to me the history of the company and how he deeply believed in after sales support for their products. InEar not only makes hearing-aid products, but also special communication products used in the task force. Also, InEar has set up InEar Asia to support the sales and services in the region.

Here is the InEar ProPhile 8 IEMs with the sound tuning bass and treble switches. They are with four-way crossover and eight balanced armature drivers per side, handcrafted in Germany.
