AXPONA 2026 Highlights Featuring Top Systems, New Gear, And Expert Sound Quality
Impressions
This exclusively LP-based presentation proved once again that pure analog remains king for many listeners. The system featured Cessaro Horn loudspeakers ($65,000), known for their ultra-efficient horn-loaded design and lightning-fast transient response. The TW Acustic Raven Copper turntable ($25,000) served as the analog front end, feeding an Alieno 100 2A3 power amplifier ($60,000) and Ferrero F-9 preamp ($25,000).
The result was a sound that combined warmth, immediacy, and dynamic explosiveness. Horns delivered lifelike scale and presence, while the 2A3 tubes added a seductive midrange glow. The system was relaxing yet engaging, offering a tactile, emotionally rich listening experience that many showgoers found unforgettable.
The Axiss Audio exhibit showcased Esoteric electronics driving Gauder Acoustic loudspeakers from Germany ($189,000). Gauder's speakers, known for their steep-slope crossovers and ceramic/diamond driver technology, produced a huge, immersive soundscape with lifelike scale and pinpoint imaging. Accuphase's ultra-low-noise digital and amplification components ensured exceptional clarity and dynamic precision.
The room delivered a powerful, authoritative presentation that maintained refinement even at high volumes — a hallmark of both brands.
A beautifully nostalgic and musically satisfying moment came from hearing Frank Sinatra on LP through J Sikora turntable source and Joseph Audio loudspeakers paired with Doshi tube electronics, plus Cardas Audio cabling.
Joseph Audio's time-aligned crossover design and smooth, coherent voicing combined with Doshi's rich, harmonically textured tube sound to create a presentation that was intimate, warm, and emotionally expressive. Sinatra's voice carried natural body and presence, with the kind of analog ease that digital rarely matches.
Western Electric showcased their legendary 300B triode technology with the Stereo 91E integrated amplifier ($8,000), delivering 20 Watts of pure Class A single-ended power. The sound was smooth, relaxed, and non-fatiguing, with a natural warmth that suited both vocal and instrumental jazz.
Also on display were the new 100E Monoblock amplifiers ($150,000/pair), each delivering 160 Watts RMS of single-ended power using newly produced 308B triode tubes — an extraordinary engineering achievement. The system drove a pair of Western Electric A-2 high-efficiency loudspeakers ($150,000/pair) featuring Radial AMT tweeters, producing an involving, dynamic, and richly textured musical presentation. This room demonstrated the enduring magic of triode amplification paired with high-efficiency loudspeakers.
