Munich Germany
High End Society 2005 Show

Part 3
Page 1

Melody had a good range of tube pre/amplifiers including their SHW 1688II preamplifier (€4,400) with 101D, 6SL7, 6SN7, and 5AR4. Super wide 3Hz to 100kHz frequency response.

Lehmann Audio proudly showcased their new Black Cube Decade MM/MC (around €1,500 or so) that is a two chassis design with power supply separate from the critical analog stage to reduce noise. A switchable soft bass roll off (6dB), gain adjustment, and loading adjustment and a few of the features.

Tube photos... if you have to ask, you just don't get it.

Cute little amplifier lovers rejoice as Kolibri's stereo unit (€1,200) uses subminiature JAN5902 and 6247 to produce a whopping 800mw per channel. It is so small an external power supply chassis is necessary! and as you can see, the unit is barely higher than my fingers! Note: This unit is now called the µVac and made by GREATech.

If you ever wondered what a KEF 205 (€4,000) looked like if you cut it away to see the internals....

Insert various jokes here. Ok, now to be serious here was a wonderful saxophone quartet called Hot Sax. Let it be noted i am avoiding good sax, three girls and a guy jokes, and the standard 'Man she can blow" or "Good tonguing technique" jokes.

Mordaunt-Short showcased their new Performance 6 floorstander (€2,500) with many new innovations. Look for our review coming soon!

Bowers & Wilkins (B&W) 800D (£13,000) is a 3-way, 4 driver floorstanding loudspeaker has a base vented reflex design. Two 250mm Rohacell cone bass units, one 150mm woven Kevlar cone FST midrange unit, and one 25mm CVD diamond dome tweeter round things out nicely. See our review here.

Burmester room was packed with ultra-fi gear! Only a few days ago i was watching TV and there was a automobile special, in German, concerning the Rolls Royce, Bentley, and Maybach. None other than Dieter Burmeister was featured with his company's sound system ion the Bentley!

Sony, while no longer releasing new SACD music titles, was showing the new NS9100 as reported within our Industry News page. Formats it can handle include virtually all DVD, CD, JPEG, MP3, etc. It also has multi-channel analog output and HDMI plus component for videophiles.
