  Audio Expo North America (AXPONA) 2024 took place from April 12th through 14th at The Renaissance Schaumburg Convention Center close to Chicago. This three-day experience featured a multitude of floors, with a total of approximately 200 listening rooms. Special showcases included the Expo Hall that featured The Record Fair, The Ear Gear Experience, and a variety of seminars. Whether you're a very serious audiophile, a newcomer to high-end audio or simply a music lover, you found everything you need to immerse yourself in your favorite tunes.

This most recent AXPONA (Audio EXpo NOrth America), held Friday, April 12th through Sunday, April 14th at the Renaissance Schaumburg Hotel & Convention Center for the fifth time (COVID-19 took its toll affecting the cancellation of the 2020 and 2021 events), managed to break all its previous records by welcoming 10,391 attendees from 42 states and 31 countries. Liz Smith, AXPONA's Show Director for JD Events shared that this represented a 14% increase over 2023, adding that, "This year our Gen Z pass doubled. It was exciting to see so many attendees ages 15 to 26 discovering the world of high-performance audio." Just how big and amazing was it? This year's monstrous event featured 202 dedicated listening rooms and dozens of displays and booths over its sprawling twelve floors of displays and exhibits crafted by some 600 global manufacturers, retailers, distributors, and brands!

Here are my Top Five Rooms, presented in the same order as the main show report is laid out, starting on floor 16 and working down to the ground floor. Keep in mind that, given your personal biases and musical preferences, ANY of these Top Five Rooms might have filled your top honor qualifications. They were ALL fabulous and deserving of such remarkable recognition. Let's literally, "Take it from the top...."

Concerts
On Friday, April 12 at 8pm, celebrated jazz guitarist Bobby Broom will take the stage at AXPONA 2024. Born and raised in New York City, Bobby began studying the guitar at age 12, eventually attending the High School of Music and Art where he took part in the jazz ensemble and was awarded Outstanding Jazz Improvisation during his senior year. Broom's first release of original compositions Upper West Side Story (2012) reached number one within the College Music Journal jazz chart and was in the Jazz Week and Down Beat Top Albums of 2012. Today, Broom calls Chicago home and teaches Chicago high school students for the Ravinia Festival Organization's community outreach Jazz Scholar Program.

Singing dynamic duo family The Secret Sisters will perform on Saturday, April 13 at 8pm. Featuring Lydia and Laura Rogers, this Alabama-based country-folk pair emerged in 2010 with harmonies, exceptional songwriting, and a united admiration of country music's vibrant history. Their third album, You Don't Own Me Anymore, was produced by Brandi Carlile and Tim and Phil Hanseroth, with it being mixed by Grammy-winner Trina Shoemaker and recorded by Jerry Streeter. The album brought forth their first Grammy nomination within the category of Best Folk Album. Their upcoming fifth studio album, Mind, Man, Medicine is now available.
