Like many of my peers, I was captivated by music at a very young age. I suppose it is in my blood as my mother played multiple instruments and taught High School music. My Grandmother also played the cello, which I also took up when I was young. Growing up in the 1980s I was inundated with all the horribly wonderful music of that decade. Cassette tapes though, oh how I loathed them. Having always been a techie, that format annoyed me to no end. Thankfully the 1990s arrived and CDs quickly became the standard. I developed quite a collection, many of it due to exploiting BMG and Columbia House. For some reason I always tended to gravitate to portable players (Sony CD Walkman for life) and later in the early 2000s, I extensively used Mini-disc for several years. Naturally headphones became my preferred method of listening to music, but it took me a while to find my audiophile roots.

In the mid 1990s I got a job at Best Buy and picked up a pair of Sony MDR-V6 headphones with my employee discount. The Sony's were used the next 7 to 8 years until they were held together with duct tape and barely functioning. Upon looking back, that very well might be my best audio related purchase ever. Not long after, I decided I needed a replacement for the venerable V6's. Of course I turned to the internet to help me find my next pair of headphones. Somehow I stumbled on a pair of import JVC's, which several people said had exceptional bass and played well with electronic music. So I bought them, and was impressed with their sound quality. I used them for quite a few years, but like how many adventures start, I can't quite remember how it started...

For some unknown reason only a mere four years ago (2015), I started looking for a new pair of headphones. First some Beyerdynamic 880's showed up at my house, then some Audio Technica MX-50's, and the some AKG-Q701's. Oh, the rabbit hole I had slide down into. Fueled by my rabid thirst and information from online forums, over the next few years I accumulated and sold quite a large amount of low to mid-fi gear. Eventually I got a killer deal on a pair of used HD-800's, and that shattered the ceiling on higher end offerings, which once seemed out of reach. Then came the bigger amps, better DAC and cables. What had I gotten myself into?!? Honestly I didn't care as the whole process was quite enjoyable. Starting from the bottom and working your way to the top, that's the way to go.

Which leads me to more or less where I am today. Quite a collection of headphone related gear as well a trove of accumulated knowledge. I'd started to frequently review headphones and other related equipment online, and the next thing I know I'm being asked to join the team at Enjoy the Music.com. Hope you enjoy my reviews, and more importantly the music!
