Summer is a fantastic time to enjoy live music and an equally great time to listen
to music outdoors. I tend to enjoy the nightlife with friends more frequently in the
summer and we often find ourselves at smaller venues listening to live bands. It's
just easier to leave the house when it's warm outside. I also spend a lot more time
on my patio listening to music through the amazing sounding Monitor Audio CL80
outdoor speakers that I installed in the spring. I encourage you to accompany your
outdoor time with your favourite music this season and if you need some guidance
on finding the right solution for yourself, please check out our "Outdoor Speaker
Buyer Guide" in this issue. This is Gaelen Andrews' first contribution and I hope
you enjoy it.
On a different note, Malcolm Gomes takes us through an exploration of what it
means for an audio system to sound neutral. What qualities make a hifi system sound neutral? How can you judge whether a system sounds neutral? Check out
his "Elusive Pursuit of Absolute Neutrality'' feature to find out all the answers.
Malcolm's other feature, "A Free Ride on the Upgrade Train!", offers some amazing advice on how to improve the sound of your current audio system on the
cheap (and sometimes free). Find out how small tweaks can make a big sound improvement in your audio rig.
And be sure to give our latest reviews a read -we scour the vast sea of consumer
audio and video products and review only the good ones. I had a particularly great
time listening to and evaluating the Unison Research Sinfonia integrated amp this
time around.
Enjoy the rest of the summer to the fullest!
