AXPONA 2011 Show Report
AXPONA 2011 Show Report -- Audio Expo North America

DCCA Audio makes large power cables and interconnects. DCCA can tonally adjust the sound of their products by offering three different choices for sound tuning your next power cord that includes, Warm & Rich, Neutral or what they call Best of Both.

Acoustic Zen Crescendo ($16,000) speakers mated with Tri TRV-845SE front end electronic s ($6000). Enjoy the Music.com has an interview with Acoustic Zen's Robert Lee as seen here plus reviews of the Acoustic Zen cables here.

The LSA group was gettin' down with Quincy Jones album Soul Bossa Nostra and sounded groovin' with the LSA1 Statement speakers ($2599) and their Standard tube hybrid integrated amp ($5000).

And then we have Avatar Acoustics room jamming out to classic ZZ Top on vinyl with the Dr. Fieckert Analogue Blackbird table ($7999), Roso Fiorentino Electrocoustic Sienna loudspeakers ($24,999)... and the world premier of AMR's DP-777 DAC ($4999).The AMR unit had four new technologies including their own 192kHz capable USB bus, has Global Master Timing anti-jitter technology that has 28 million different clock frequencies to exactly match the incoming frequency, nine digital inputs of which four run through a NOS tube designed to operate into the 100mHz range to amplify and purify the HD S/PDIF single and last the Gemini Digital Engine that at its core has two distinct chipsets, which includes the classic AMR multi-bit unit and the other is a HD 32-bit DAC. It is also a true fully analog preamplifier as it maintains the signal analog all the way through. In addition, the digital can be controlled as the volume is adjusted via a vacuum resistor array with 71 steps.

Tyler Acoustic had their Taylo Reference System ($4800) and uses a seal Eminence 15-inch woofer. Naturally/plenty of deep bass and definition, yet of course you need to balance that out so a 6-inch Seas magnesium mid and ScanSpeak Revelator tweeter. The sound was smooth in the highs and bass was among the deepest of this event.

Krispy Kreme time!!! On the third level they had Krispy Kreme donuts... sweetness from the Gods!

Jim Smith and his Get Better Sound book and now on DVD too! Of course Enjoy the Music.com has a book review of Get Better Sound as seen here.

Legacy Audio the Whisper XD ($20,000) large 4-way floorstander with ten drivers. The mate a 1" dual pole neo ribbon folded Kapton diaphragm tweeter with 3" dual pole neo ribbon vapor deposited Kapton diaphragm upper driver, four 7" Rohacell reinforced-Silver Graphite midrange units and four 15" carbon/pulp composite woofers. Sensitivity is a nice 95dB/W/m and bring a few friends when setting them up as each one weighs 210 lbs.

Scaena's iso-linera array speakers feature multiple drivers in their own housing, which are then 'stacked', were being driven by BAT tube amplification.

VAC's tube excellence was at AXPONA with their Statement 450S amp ($39,000) and Signature MKIIa ($19,000 with MM/MC phono with switchable loading). i personally reviewed the VAC Avatar integrated tube amplifier as seen here.
