Sick of Sarah

II have always enjoyed energetic all girl rock bands like The Runaways but the attention they get has never been a focus of the media as a whole. These days of equal opportunity and the internet have changed things considerably and women with talent seem to be getting a much fairer shake than the old days.
Sick of Sarah is rock pop band with everything it takes to turn heads with their music, looks and on stage presence. On their self-titled album, they make some inroads to future popularity. The girls pump out quirky rock pop with an alternative flavor on their fast-paced to-the-point tracks. With the exception of the acoustic tracks, "Fall" and "Paint Like That," which knocks down the energy a few pegs, the lead off track "Daisies" and "Bittersweet" pretty much set the pace for the entire recording.

Abisha Uhl (lead vocals, guitar), Katie Murphy (lead guitar, backup vocals), Jessie Farmer (guitar, vocals), who was the touring bass player for Babes In Toyland, Brooke Svanes (drums) and Jamie Holm (bass) make up this band of charismatic vixens. The name of the band is different and it came about one day when Uhl's roommate said one day "I'm sick of Sarah" so they thought that was a great name for the band.

I listened to this CD a few times and feel that it caught my ear more than once however there is nothing new or special going on here, it is pretty straight forward basic rock music. If you yearn to hear a good all girl band that has some potential give Sick of Sarah a try. I think with further development and a few breaks they could easily take this to the next level. The musicianship is above average and the production is good. There is always room for improvement but for this listener this was something different, the wind was blowing in different direction the day I heard this and sometimes I really need that change and can genuinely appreciate bands like this.
