Angie Stevens
Queen of This Mess

On her third release Angie Stevens' smoky soprano wraps around eleven new songs. Malcolm Burn's production lends an extra mystery and emotional depth to Stevens' tunes. Sometimes Stevens vocals remind me of Julie Miller, while other times her lyrics evoke Karen Dalton. If intelligent adult roots/folk is your thing, you need to hear Angie Stevens.

Red Stick Ramblers
My Suitcase is Always Packed

From the opening Cajun rollick, "Je T'aime Pas Mieux" through the honky tonkin' "Drinkin To You" to the western swing title tune "My Suitcase is Always Packed," the Red Stick Ramblers' command of a multiplicity of roots genres will make your head spin. This band of young 'uns deliver thirteen good reasons to buy and enjoy their fifth release.

Fred Redekop and Jay Taylor
As Julia Ponders...

With only a mandolin, bass, and dollop of percussion Fred Redekop and Jay Taylor create more music on their latest CD than many multi-member bands. All thirteen original tunes swing with a jazzy edge and lyrical melody lines. Mandolinist Redenkop takes full advantage of an acoustic mandolin's tonal colors and dynamic range. Like acoustic jazz? This is definitely up your alley.
