The Home Entertainment Show 2008
The Home Entertainment Show 2008 (THE Show)
T.H.E. Show 2008

Thursday

Evolution Audio, dartZeel and Audience joined forces at T.H.E.Show. The Evolution Audio MMthree loudspeaker ($70,000, though there is a special highly discounted introductory rate) is a very large floorstanding affair with a pair each 15-inch treated paper woofers and 7-inch ceramic midrange drivers, with a single 5-inch aluminum ribbon tweeter for the uppermost frequencies. Frequency response is the widest i have seen at the shop on paper… from a very deep 7Hz to a stratospheric 70kHz! Audience supplied the power conditioning for this system.

Soundsmith had a full stack including their SG-810 preamplifier, SG-400 preamplifier, HI-100 integrated amplifier, HE-150 150 wpc amplifier, and HE-2006 300 wpc stereo amplifier ($15,000, $6000, $8000, $6000, and $50,000 respectively). Note that the top two are part of a five model range that comes with the Strain Gauge phono cartridge. Their new Voice cartridge ($2200) comes in two compliances (medium and high) with ruby cantilever contact line and is MM input compatible.

Mark & Daniel has this cute little 10-inch high red minimonitor loudspeaker called the Maximus-Mini ($1200) that uses a 4-inch midrange/woofer and DM-2 Dreams wideband EMT tweeter.

Audio Note's new Kegon Balanced (around $85,000) features fully transformer coupling, all DHT, and of interest is they are employing a VT25 in the gain stage. All hand wound silver transformers, silver wired, plus all the usual bits one expects from top-of-the-range Audio Note.

The Music had a huge booth with a staggering amount of vinyl and digital discs.

Music Direct has a full stand with a wide assortment of Mobile Fidelity titles. Note that they just released Rush Permanent Waves on CD, with vinyl coming shortly!
