RMAF 2009 Show Report (Rocky Mountain Audio Fest)
Photofest By Ron Nagle

Welcome to the RMAF, seen here is where many hundreds of people came to pick up their badges.

Tri launched their world premiere of the company's new TRB6SE ($3000) preamplifier and TRB845SE ($6000).

No, those are not light fixtures; they are RAAL Solaja Audio model Constellation speakers ($1000). Four 3-inch downward-firing drivers (two per side) and a 6.5-inch woofer reside on the floor.

At Pass Lab's / First Watt had their mono amps and Lowther speakers. Really fun stuff!

This is the mercury vapor tube to power the field coil in the Pass Labs / First Watt room.

Daedalus had a pair of Ulysses large reference speakers that were driven by the ModWright LS36.5 pre and KWA150 amplifiers. Like many rooms at the show, they were using a computer-based streaming media front-end.

Studio Electric now offers their LM1 custom in-wall speakers that provide for toe-in and true bass management (starting at $11,000 per pair). The front-end in their room was the iPhone hooked to the Krell then using the Benchmark DAC1 HDR unit ($1895). The Benchmark is like a Swiss Knife of digital audio handling and front-end with USB, TosLink, Optical and coax S/PDIF digital inputs and can handle sampling rates from 28 to 195 kHz and up to 24-bit, has very low jitter and noise, plus can be a preamplifier with RCA stereo outputs and two headphone outputs. Hidden away just off camera is the impressive Silver Circle Audio pure power one 5.0 power conditioner ($5,000).

The Al Stiefel Legacy Room.

Audio Note's new Zero range of components including their CD Transport, DAC 0.1x 24/96 DAC, R Zero phonostage and Zero valve integrated amplifier (prices range from $1400 on up).

JoLida's FX10 lil' 12-watt integrated amplifier ($450) remote control tube unit that also handles mp3 and iPods.
