Steven Stone

Steven Stone has been a professional writer and photographer since 1981. He attended Boston University's School of Communications where he majored in Photojournalism. After college Steven pursued a course of post-graduate studies with John Benson at Image Works in Cambridge, Massachusetts. He also studied with Lissette Model, Carl Chiarenza, Art Kane, Emmet Gowin, and Arnold Newman.

Steven Stone has been a contributing editor to Stereophile Guide to Home Theater for the last eight years. He was a contributing editor to Stereophile for over six years and writer for The Absolute Sound for ten years prior to Stereophile. He's also the monthly acoustic instrument columnist and feature-writer for Vintage Guitar Magazine. Acoustic Guitar Magazine also regularly uses him for technical columns and features. Additionally he has done articles on home entertainment for Spin and Creem magazines.

His editorial photography has appeared in Business Week, The New York Times, Newsweek, Boston Magazine, W, and many other publications. His personal photography is in the collections of the Library of Congress, Biblioteque National of France, and many private collections. Record labels including Sugar Hill, Rounder, and Righteous Babes Records have used his photography for CD covers. His latest photographic project, a series of portraits of musicians who have been on E-Town, the nationally syndicated musical variety show, includes pictures of John Hammond, Greg Brown, Janis Ian, Joan Baez, Steve Earle, and the late John Hartford.

Mr. Stone is also a recording engineer who specializes in symphony orchestras using minimalist recording techniques. He and J. Gordon Holt, along with Dominic Maita (Airshow Mastering) have been recording the Boulder Philharmonic Orchestra for the last ten years. Non-musical interests include smoking cigars from outlaw island nations, petting one of eight cats, and mending woodpecker holes on the sides of his house in Boulder, Colorado. For a change of pace, Steven plays mandolin in a bluegrass band on weekends when he's not engaged in marathon movie orgies.
